Talk Tech Liberty is an awareness and capacity-building program launched by the Free Tech Institute (FREETI) to promote digital freedom, privacy, and responsible innovation in Burundi. Implemented with the support of the Atlas Network, the Internet Society Foundation, and the Global Encryption Coalition, the program fosters open dialogue on the social, economic, and ethical dimensions of technology, helping young people and decision-makers understand how digital tools can strengthen freedom and national development.
Through conferences, workshops, and both online and in-person discussions, the program has engaged over 300 participants and reached nearly 40,000 people online. It has produced 29 educational articles, developed and shared a policy brief with various national authorities, and mobilized experts from academia, civil society, and the private sector. Among its flagship initiatives is the Global Encryption Day Burundi, successfully organized for four consecutive editions, raising awareness about privacy, cybersecurity, and encryption. By equipping youth and opinion leaders with knowledge and practical skills, Talk Tech Liberty contributes to building a more open, secure, and innovative digital society in Burundi.
